Average Speed Cameras in Operation

Sizewell C can confirm the installation of Average Speed Cameras along the B1122 between the level crossing and Eastbridge Road, and on the B1125 at Westleton, as requested by their respective parish councils, has now been successfully completed.

This initiative which has been developed in conjunction with Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council, and Suffolk Constabulary, forms part of our wider commitment to improving road safety, reducing speeding, and supporting safer journeys for everyone — whether travelling by car, bicycle, or on foot - as we are set to commence main works.

Why Average Speed Cameras?

These cameras work by recording the time vehicles take to travel between two fixed points. This system encourages consistent, legal speeds along the whole route, rather than just at fixed points. Evidence from other areas has shown significant reductions in both speeding and accident rates following similar installations. Locations are targeted to areas where a greater risk due to Sizewell C construction traffic is anticipated combined with use of local routes.

What to Expect

  • The cameras are now operational
  • Clear signage has been installed to alert drivers in advance
  • There is no change to the current temporary speed limits — only improved enforcement to help ensure compliance.
