Unfortunately, we need to extend the current closure at Leiston level crossing on Station Road for up to a further three weeks. The closure is now expected to remain in place until 20 September 2026.
This extension is needed because a fragile utility pipe was found when the works began. We are working closely with the relevant utility companies to make sure the pipe and wider utility network are protected while the replacement works are carried out. We understand this closure is causing disruption locally, and we are sorry for the additional inconvenience this may cause to residents, businesses and people travelling through Leiston.
The closure remains necessary so the works at the level crossing can be completed safely. We are working with our contractors and partners to finish the remaining work as quickly and safely as possible.
During the extended closure, the approved diversion routes will remain in place. Please continue to follow the diversion and allow extra time for journeys where possible.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of the local community while these essential works continue. We will provide further updates if there are any changes to the programme.
