Marine Bulk Import Facility Construction

Advanced notice of beach works starting in January 2026

Sizewell C is planning to start the construction of the Marine Bulk Import Facility (MBIF) in the new year which will require a temporary partial closure of the footpath in the immediate area.

The MBIF will extend approximately 500 metres from the Main Construction Site into the North Sea, supporting our strategy to deliver 60% of construction materials by rail and sea.

To construct the facility, we will be using a cantitravel system to install piles that will support the platform. This platform will enable the movement of materials from import vessels directly to the site.

Public Safety and Footpath Access

To ensure public safety during construction, a 50-metre radius exclusion zone will be in place around the works area.

As a result, Sizewell has submitted a request to temporarily close the coastal footpath in the vicinity of the works.

The footpath will remain open at weekends and be closed during the week

  • Weekends: Footpath open from 06:00 Saturday to 22:00 Sunday
  • Weekdays: Closed

The footpath will fully reopen once construction progresses into the North Sea. We anticipate this work will be complete by the end of March 2026 and will keep you informed of progress.

A longer in land diversionary route will be made available during the closure period.
