Thank you for your patience as we continue to progress works on and around the local transport network in East Suffolk.
As we head towards the end of the year, Sizewell C has reached key milestones as we work to improve the local road infrastructure and build our park and rides. In the New Year will continue to work at pace to deliver the improvements. Unfortunately, this will lead to further disruption, specifically during the first quarter of 2026 with several weekend closures along the A12, B1122 and B1125 as we aim to get works achieved ahead of the busy summer period for visitors to the County.
The main construction site will close from 19 December to the 5 January. Where it is safe and appropriate, we will lift traffic management such as temporary traffic lights along the A12 at Darsham. There will be some areas that will still be at work during working week, including Middleton Road (B1122), Buckleswood Road, Southern Park and Ride, Abbey Road (B1122). The office at the Ancillary Construction Area (ACA) on King Georges Avenue will also be open. Security will remain in place across all sites throughout the Christmas period.
The 24-hour phoneline will also remain in operation 0800 197 6102. The community relations team will continue to answer the phone during working hours.
From next year, at Friday Street and Yoxford roundabouts there will be necessary traffic management (two-way traffic lights and cones) in place as the roundabouts are prepared to be connected to the A12. During the first two quarters of 2026 there will be weekend and nighttime road closures as we construct and connect the new roundabouts to the A12 and neighbouring roads. The roundabouts will be operational by mid-2026. We will advertise the closures and diversions well in advance and all information can be found on the Sizewell C works tracker.
We have completed the widened and improved layby (by Hacheston / Wickham Market) on the A12 to assist police escorting our wide load HGVs and the traffic management has now been lifted with the A12 dual carriageway operating as normal with national speed limits back in place.
We have also completed road safety improvements along the B1078. This work includes overall improvements between the A140 junction with the B1078 and Wickham Market and new signs, village gateway signs, improvements to visibility at junctions and areas of carriageway resurfacing.
Sizewell Beach
From the New Year, works along Sizewell beach will start including the construction of the temporary Main Bulk Import Facility (MBIF jetty) and installation of Temporary Marine Outfall pipeline, which will eject clean surface water from the main site. This will require footpath restrictions, which will be lifted over the weekends. Further details on this work can be found on the works tracker here: Marine Bulk Import Facility Construction - Sizewell C Works Tracker
Bailey Bridge – linking the Temporary Construction Area to the Main Construction Area
The first part of the bridge across the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), that links the Temporary Construction Area (TCA) to the Main Construction Area (MCA) has been successfully installed. The bridge will streamline vehicle movement between our sites and will reduce traffic in the local road network.
Sizewell C Offices across Suffolk
The Orwell Logistics Park is also now fully open with 350 office-based workers now working from the site. The aim of having a dispersed workforce is to ensure that we reduce the pressure to the Leiston area and that we offer flexibility to our workers on location.
Sizewell C Bus depot Ransomes Industrial Estate, Ipswich
In the New Year, we will be submitting a planning application for the development of a bus depot in Ipswich. The site is adjacent to the Euro Retail Park, which we are using to park our current bus fleet. The development of the site will include refuelling for our electric and hydrogen buses, maintenance and cleaning. The site will host up to 160 buses, although most of the time the buses will be in operation across the region. We will hold a public exhibition of the plans mid-January in the area.
Road closures and re-openings 2026
We issue weekly traffic management and short term road closure updates every Friday for the week ahead, we add this to our social media channels. The Sizewell C works tracker (Sizewell C related Traffic Management & Road Closures - Sizewell C Works Tracker) and One Network Causeway one.network are guides to works in the area and the new subscription service through our works tracker will also help with transport plans around the county. A summary of upcoming closures and traffic management are as follows:
