These radio tracking surveys are intended to help us identify roosts, map the home ranges of bats and indicate the most important foraging areas and commuting routes for local bat populations. They will help to inform the project’s design by allowing us to avoid or minimise impacts on important areas for bats and helping to identify the best areas for new habitat creation.
The surveys will look at all bat species within Sizewell but will focus mainly on barbastelle bats. Barbastelle are one of the rarest bats in the UK. They are a tree dwelling species and are known to regularly switch between tree roosts during the summer.
