Vegetation Clearance on the Sizewell C Project

By SZC Community Relations | Published on 13th April 2025

As works on the associated developments for Sizewell C, such as the two-village bypass, Sizewell link road, park and ride facilities and green rail route, get underway, our teams are working in this areas erecting fencing and removing specific trees and hedgerows to facilitate the construction of these areas.

Our design minimises vegetation clearance, but some clearance is necessary in order to build these areas and new road and railway schemes. All vegetation clearance is strictly controlled under the Development Consent Order (DCO) and the approved clearance plans for the main site and the offsite projects.

All clearance of vegetation is supervised by ecologists. Where practical, clearance works are carried out during autumn and winter to avoid impacts on nesting birds. Restrictions under licences for works affecting trees that contain confirmed or potential bat roosts require felling to be carried out in the spring or autumn when temperatures are sufficiently high.

Where nesting birds are encountered, works are rescheduled to ensure that no impacts occur.

The final landscaping at the associated development sites will occur on completion of construction in 2026 /2027 and further details of the works currently taking place in these areas is provided in individual locations on the map here: Sizewell C Works Tracker - Track SZC Projects & Get Alerts for New Activities
