Leiston-cum-Sizewell
From 16 February, Sizewell C will commence the construction of the Marine Bulk Import Facility (MBIF) which will require a temporary partial closure of the footpath in the immediate area.
The MBIF will extend approximately 500 metres from the Main Construction Site into the North Sea, supporting our strategy to deliver 60% of construction materials by rail and sea.
To construct the facility, we will be using a cantitravel system to install piles that will support the platform. This platform will enable the movement of materials from import vessels directly to the site.
Public Safety and Footpath Access
To ensure public safety during construction, Sizewell has submitted a request to temporarily close the coastal footpath in the vicinity of the works.
The footpath will remain open at weekends and be closed during the week
- Weekends: Footpath open from 23:59 Friday to 23:59 Sunday
- Weekdays: Closed
The footpath will fully reopen once construction progresses into the North Sea. We anticipate this work will be complete by the end of March 2026 and will keep you informed of progress.
