Sizewell C related Traffic Management, Road Closures & Rail Movements

Please see below for current and up and coming train movements, road closures and traffic management in relation to the Sizewell C project:

Engineering Train Movements 

A12 Closures

Darsham

The A12 at Darsham will be closed for a full weekend from 8pm 6 Nov to 5am 9 Nov to complete a water connection across the A12.

The diversion route is A12, A14, A140, A143, A12 and vice versa.

Access to Heveningham Hall fireworks display via the A1120 from the South of Darsham and A144 from the North of Darsham.

B1122 Closures

There will be weekend closures of the B1122 between Potters Street and Lover’s Lane and Eastbridge Road from the B1122 for approximately 300m throughout November.

Abbey Road Weekend Closures - Sizewell C Works Tracker

Other Road Closures

Leiston and Theberton

Eastbridge Road will be closed from 19 October to 12 November. The diversion route is Baker’s Lane, Onner’s Lane and B1122.

George Road is closed from 26 May to September 2028 for works associated with the Sizewell Link Road. The diversion route will be Harrow Lane, Abbey Lane and B1122.

Pretty Road will be closed until Q3 2027 for the construction of an overbridge as part of the Sizewell Link Road. The diversion route will be Harrow Lane, Abbey Lane and B1122.

Westleton

The western end of Mill Street will be closed between 2 and 13 November. The diversion route is Mill Street, Baker’s Lane.

The eastern end of The Hill will be closed between 9 and 25 November, followed by the southern end of Village Green (opp. Baker’s Lane) between 25 November and 18 December. The diversion route is Darsham Road.

Yoxford Road (south side of triangle) will be closed between 10 and 25 November.

The Street (B1125) will be closed at nights (7pm to 5am) from 7pm 14 December to 5am 24 December. Access to Westleton will be maintained via B1125 from the north and local roads from the west. Access to properties will be maintained.

Middleton-cum-Fordley

Fordley Road will be closed from 10 August 2026 until Q3 2027 for the construction of the Sizewell Link Road. The diversion route will be Fordley Road, Town Farm Lane, A12, and B1122.

Littlemoor Road, Middleton, has been closed from 19 November 2025 and is not expected to be reopened.

Knodishall

The Green, Knodishall will be closed from 9 to 14 November. The diversion route is Theberton Road, Saxmundham Road, Buckleswood Lane at Saxmundham level crossing, B1119 Saxmundham Road and The Green.

Farnham

Hill Farm Road has been fully closed from 12 January 2026 for works associated with the two-village bypass. The diversion route is A12, A1094 and Botany Farm Lane and vice versa.

A1094 / B1069

Scottish Power Renewables will close the A1094 / B1069 between 9 November to the 18 December on Monday to Thursday weeknights (8pm to 6am) to undertake the coordinated improvement scheme with Sizewell C

Non-Sizewell C Road Closure

Essex and Suffolk Water are closing the B1125 from 9 November 2026 to 1 March 2027 for a renewal scheme. Sizewell C are looking at collaboration with these works and will provide updates when available.

Traffic Management

Friday Street

Traffic signals will be in place overnight (7pm-6am) on A1094 Friday Street between Kettles Lane and the Friday Street roundabout from 11-12 November and 16-17 November.

Leiston

Ongoing traffic signals on Lover’s Lane and B1122 Abbey Road.

Ongoing traffic signals on Buckleswood Road associated with the rail crossing.

Multiway Traffic Lights on 11 November 09:00 -15:30 on Main Street Leiston for utility trial holes.

Traffic Lights on 12 & 13 November 09:00 -15:30 on High Street Leiston for utility trial holes.

Wickham Market

Lane closure with traffic signals on B1078, 8pm-6am, between 8pm Sunday 30 September and 6am 3 November.

Marlesford

Traffic signals on A12 will be required to complete the improvement works in Marlesford from 16 November to 2 December (20:00-05:00).

Westleton

Traffic signals will run throughout the period 2 November – 14 December, with one set of lights in the southern part of the village and another set of lights in the northern part of the village.

Speed restrictions

A12 between Kelsale and Yoxford: a 30mph speed limit in place whilst works are carried out to construct the Sizewell Link Road and roundabout.

A12 Darsham: a 30mph speed limit in place whilst works are carried out to construct the Northern Park & Ride roundabout.

B1122, Lover’s Lane and Sizewell Gap: a 30mph speed limit in place.

Buckleswood Road and Westward Ho, Leiston: 30 mph speed limits are in place whilst works are carried out to construct the Green Rail Route.

B1125: 30mph and 50mph speed limits are in place associated with the speed cameras.

Eastbridge Road: 30mph speed restrictions are in place whilst works are carried out to construct the Sizewell Link Road.
